Additional Information :

Russell Hoffert voluntarily committed himself into the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital in 1989.  He remained there until April 2000 when he walked away from the hospital grounds.  He has not been seen since.

At the time, the temperature was about minus 10 degrees Celsius, with a wind chill below minus 20 degrees Celsius.  With the temperatures, blowing and drifting snow, Russell was not properly dressed for the weather.

Police searched Bomarc Road off Highway 11 because Russell was believed to have gone in that direction.  Searches included the surrounding wooded areas and a nearby gravel pit.  He has not been seen since.
