On October 17, 1996, Alf boarded a plane to attend a business meeting in London, England.  According to his wife, he was expected to return on the 22nd or 23rd of October.

On October 19th, 1996, Alf returned to the Toronto airport via British Airways.  He did not return to his home and has not been seen since.

The subsequent police investigation revealed that the business associate Alf claimed to be meeting with, had not seen Alf since the previous year, nor did not have any meetings scheduled with Alf.
